Customers at Parkdean’s holiday parks can rent or buy accommodation ranging from caravans and camping pitches to chalets and luxury lodges. Chief executive John Waterworth, 51, is investing £13m this year to upgrade the company’s 24 parks, which have swimming pools, bars, restaurants, kids’ clubs and bowling alleys. The Newcastle-upon-Tyne company was taken private by Alchemy Partners in 2006 in a £230m deal. Last month the group announced plans to merge with rival caravan parks operator Park Resorts in a deal worth a reported £1bn, including debt.
