The group was demerged from Peel Holdings in 2006, after which the investment arm of Deutsche Bank acquired a 49.9% stake in the business. Activities include the provision of port facilities and cargo handling. With operations at the Port of Liverpool and the Manchester Ship Canal, Peel handles 67m tonnes of cargo a year. Operating profits increased to £74.8m in 2009, despite a reduction in sales to £399.1m, following the disposal of a haulage business in the prior year.
