This London company may not be a household name, but the brands it controls certainly are. With offices across the globe, Pentland Group owns niche labels such as Speedo, Berghaus and Boxfresh, and has international licences for the likes of Lacoste and Ted Baker. Founded in 1932, it claims that it was one of the first British companies to extensively manufacture in Asia, forming a division in Hong Kong in the early 1960s. Sales grew to £1,044m in 2008 under chairman Stephen Rubin.
