Founded in 1932 as the Liverpool Shoe Company, it has been run by three generations of the Rubin family, with Stephen Rubin, 81, the current chairman, and his son, Andy, the chairman of Pentland Brands. Pentland is active in 190 countries and international sales hit £1.4bn in 2017. The group also owns a majority stake in JD Sports, which acquired American retailer Finish Line in a $560m (£435m) deal last year.
