London-based Pentland Group manages clothing and sports-equipment brands such as Berghaus, Speedo and Canterbury. It designs the products for each brand, makes them or outsources their production, decides on marketing strategy and also handles distribution to retailers and other outlets. The company also owns a majority stake in JD Sports, the stock market listed retailer that bought the assets of Blacks Leisure out of administration for £20m last year. Pentland is owned by the founding Rubin family and chaired by Stephen Rubin, 75.
