You may not have heard of Pentland Group, but you probably recognise many of the clothing and sports-equipment brands it owns, such as Berghaus, Speedo and Mitre. Founded in 1932, Pentland’s global reach extends across 195 countries, with key markets including mainland Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. It invested in the Hunter wellington boot business in 2006 and has re-established the brand as a fashion icon. Owned by the founding Rubin family and chaired by Stephen Rubin, the company boosted its international sales 38% a year from £247.1m in 2009 to £471.3m in 2011.
