Perkins Foods makes a wide range of ready meals, cooked meats, sandwich fillers and other convenience foods. Its Barnsley plant is the largest egg-boiling facility in Britain. The company was founded in 1948 and 10 years after listing on the London Stock Exchange in 1990 it was taken private in a deal led by ABN Amro. Sales totalled £382m in 2003, with about half coming from continental Europe.
