In January Pets at Home was acquired by KKR for £955m from fellow private-equity group Bridgepoint. The Cheshire firm, founded by Anthony Preston in 1991, runs 266 stores in the UK, selling pets ranging from rabbits to bearded dragon lizards. It also stocks pet-related products and has a network of 60 in-store veterinary surgeries. Sales in 2009 proved resilient despite the downturn, rising 14% to £404.3m under chief executive Matt Davies.
