This pet supermarket chain was founded by Anthony Preston in Cheshire in 1991. It supplies food and accessories, including a luxury Cat and Dog Deli food range. Visiting dogs can receive free biscuits at the 218-store chain, which stocks 250 kinds of dog lead. It also provides grooming salons, veterinary surgeries and in-store adoption centres. Acquired by Bridgepoint in 2004 in a £230m deal, the business now also has two outlets in Australia. Chief executive Matt Davies oversaw sales of £354.6m in 2008.
