Terrorism and piracy in the Indian Ocean prompted ex-Royal Marine Dominic Mee, 42, to launch maritime security business Protection Vessels International in 2008. With a fleet of vessels and 600 ex-Royal Marines, PVI provides protection for commercial ships sailing to destinations such as Suez, Muscat, Durban and Cape Town. It has offices in the US, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore, and operational hubs in Oman and Sri Lanka. Under chief executive Barry Roche, 40, international sales reached £39.1m in 2011.
