This 92-year-old Hove firm supplies snacks, frozen food and fresh produce to 90,000 UK retailers. It appointed Tony Reed, 53, chief executive last October before agreeing a two-way supply deal with the alcohol wholesaler Conviviality Retail. In January its largest customer, Tesco, announced plans to buy the rival wholesaler Booker, but P&H has since signed a three-year contract extension with Tesco, and in April it secured new financing from its banks. Recent reports suggest Sainsbury’s is interested in buying the firm.
