Former classical musician David Warburton created music of a different kind when he founded Pitch Entertainment to sell ringtones to mobile-phone users, backed by £50,000 from angel investors. The London company now sells mobile downloads to subscribers in 11 countries, under the brands SplashMobile and Pitch. Alternatively, users can get free access to videos and games if they opt to accept ads from companies such as Red Bull and Adidas. This two-pronged approach has pushed up sales 326% a year from £434,000 in 2004 to £7.9m in 2006.
