Private equity firm Rutland Partners bought this UK pizza franchise for £1 in 2012, and embarked on a £60m overhaul of the brand. Last year it closed 22 underperforming sites which resulted in a marginal fall in sales to £225.5m. However, it also refurbished a fifth of its 285 restaurants and revamped its menu, which led to profits doubling to £3.3m. Chief executive Jens Hofma, 49, is leading the company’s rejuvenation.
