Claire Trott, 48, began working in a car hire business after she left school, but decided that renting diggers presented a more interesting and profitable opportunity, and set up this Weston-super-Mare firm in 1999. It now works out of five depots across southwest England and the Midlands, and supplies Hinkley Point nuclear power station and HS2 with excavation equipment. It has 1,300 vehicles available for hire, with capacity ranging from 1 ton to 80 tons. The company received a £4.7m investment from BGF in August 2018, and it has installed technology in its diggers which monitors driver and vehicle performance. Sales grew to £35.3m in September.
