Plexus Cotton

Demand from China has helped sales over the past five years at this Merseyside cotton producer. Headed by Nick Earlam, who set up the company in 1990, the business has partners, joint-venture operations and trading offices in Australia, China, Africa, Brazil and America. The firm supplies seed to farmers and purchases their harvest for ginning at its factories before selling it to the textile industry. It also trades cotton with third parties and on the futures markets. Sales were £242.9m in 2006.
