Polestar has been printing the Radio Times for more than 75 years and much more besides. Its output ranges from Woman’s Own and Country Life to academic publications, catalogues, newspaper supplements, labels and cartons – production that consumes 650,000 tonnes of paper each year. Sales reached £489m in 2003. Today Polestar has 25 operating sites across Britain, Spain and Hungary, and has four imaging companies that are pioneering the technology for transferring pages straight from a computer to a printing plate. The company was formed in 1998 by the merger of Watmoughs and the British Printing Company, and is now owned by Investcorp.
