Giant Toblerones are the bestseller at this discount retailer – it shifts 5m every year – but it also sells more than 3,000 food and household products, all priced at £1 or less. The company has flourished during the recession and now has more than 450 stores in the UK, including 25 in Ireland under its Dealz brand. Chief executive Jim McCarthy, 57, has increased sales 20% to reach an annualised £765m in 2012, leading to speculation that its owner, Warburg Pincus, will sell or float the business next year for up to £600m, having bought it for £200m in 2010.
