At age 22, chief executive Charles Shrimpton recognised that the insurance sector was underserved in terms of e-business software and so he created Practiv. The Guildford company provides insurance companies with software programs and web applications that automate online transactions. The technology has been adopted by clients such as Friends Provident and Bupa. Practiv is now developing an application that runs on mobile handsets and will give insurance brokers access to customer information, such as appointment details and quotes. Sales grew 41% a year from £4.3m in 2003 to £8.5m in 2005.
