Using only preservative-free, ethically-sourced ingredients in its sandwiches has proved a success for Pret A Manger. It has 295 outlets in Britain, Hong Kong and America and recently opened two in Paris. Started by Sinclair Beecham and Julian Metcalfe in 1986, Bridgepoint bought a majority share in 2008 for £345m. Chief executive Clive Schlee saw international sales grow 32% a year, from £34.7m in 2009 to £60.4m in 2011.
