Priory Group’s clinics have become famous for helping troubled celebrities hooked on drugs or alcohol. The company is now one of Britain’s largest private providers of mental healthcare, education and care-home services, operating 60 hospitals, care homes and special education facilities for children with autism and behavioural disorders. The business is planning to open a dementia-care nursing home at the former RAF Watton air base in Norfolk, which will create up to 60 specialised nursing jobs. Majority-owned by RBS, the group is reported to be up for sale with a price tag of £1 billion. Chief executive Philip Scott oversaw sales of £256.7m in 2009.
