Prohire leases and manages trucks and vans for companies such as the security firm Reliance and the pub operator Greene King. With contracts running for an average of five years, it has grown sales 56% a year, from £2.6m in 2001 to £9.6m in 2004. The company was founded by David Barlow and Colin Walton in 1997, but its growth took off after the 2003 acquisition of a competitor, Securicor Vehicle Management, which enabled Prohire to bid for larger contracts. Last year, it won a seven-year £27m contract with Reliance Secure Task Management to provide 300 vehicles for the British Prisons Service.
