This company makes the Activboard, a “whiteboard” used by teachers and police trainers to engage with students. Its large screen enables video playback and internet usage as well as high-resolution writing. Activote, a wireless voting system, linked to the screen, allows the instructor to run multiple-choice tests with the whole class and to display results instantly. The TDS Group was founded in the 1970s, but sales really took off in 1996 when the Promethean subsidiary was set up to develop classroom systems. Sales have risen 53% a year from £16.5m in 2001 to £38.6m in 2003.
