Teachers and policemen use TDS Promethean’s Activboard, an electronic interactive whiteboard. Activboard allows the user to write text, play videos and draw graphics, which can then be recorded or saved as web pages on a personal computer. Tony Cann founded the TDS Group in the 1970s, but sales took off in 1996 when the Promethean subsidiairy was set up to develop classroom systems. The Blackburn group employs 151 staff and its sales have risen 59% a year from £6.5m in 1999 to £16.4m in 2001.
