When Phil Smith set up his call-centre products business, Quality PLUS Consulting, he sold his house and started above a kebab shop at Turnham Green in west London.
The firm, now based in Wales, adapts and integrates American software for the likes of Virgin and Bank of Scotland to monitor different operators’ performances and conduct on-screen training. Sales increased 94% a year, from £750,000 in 1998 to £2.8m in 2000.
