With Rapha, Simon Mottram, 48, has built an international cycling brand with a strong following in America and Japan in the 10 years since he founded the business. Its range of premium cycling clothing – which includes the Team Sky kit since it became its official supplier – is sold online and through its cycle clubs. Exports reached an annualised £18.5m in 2014, and the company intends to open clubs in Manchester, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Amsterdam this year.
