When Paul ffelan and Robert Day founded Rapid in 1999, they were in their mid-twenties and still living at home with their parents. ffelan’s father Michael, a former policeman, offered to come out of retirement and work at the company for free – he is now company secretary. Computer components such as monitors and peripherals account for 90% of Rapid’s sales. Complete computer systems make up the rest. Customers are predominantly resellers and companies. The firm’s sales have grown 77% a year from an annualised £1.2m in 2000 to £6.7m in 2003. The company went into creditors voluntary liquidation and ceased trading on 26 November 2004.
