This Buckinghamshire company is an intra-ocular lens specialist, having designed and manufactured the first lens, made from perspex, in 1949. These are implanted directly into the eye to improve the vision of people with partial sight or cataracts. The company received US approval for a new lens in 2007, becoming the first non-American company in more than 20 years to do so. Under group managing director Alan Dickson, international sales grew 28% a year, from £9.1m in 2008 to £15m in 2010, and the company is targeting the US and Japan for future expansion.
