Profits at this Preston-headquartered recycling firm grew to £4.6m last year, when it opened five new sites and invested £8m in specialist machinery that can retrieve higher-value metals. Internet entrepreneur Steven Jackson OBE, 52, started the business in 2008, with the aim of helping to rebuild the lives of those who had fallen on hard times. Its commercial activities for customers such as John Lewis, BT and British Gas, support its social programmes, which last year included rehabilitating 36 ex-offenders and distributing 700,000 meals, creating £5.2m in social value.
