Recycling UK was formed in 1998 to buy and sell waste paper within Britain and mainland Europe. Since then the Cheshire-based company has seen substantial and continuous growth, expanding into new markets including India. Under founder and managing director Neil Clarke, international sales grew 30% a year from £3.7m in 2009 to £6.4m in 2011. This has been driven by long-standing relationships with Dutch clients – who import UK-produced specialist paper – and exports to a Mumbai-based company.
