You would have to be watching carefully to catch the Redbus logo on the cinema screen because it does not announce itself with the fanfare of some of its rivals. But this film distributor, founded by Simon Franks and Zygi Kamasa in 1998, now has the UK rights to more than 75 films, including Jeepers Creepers, Bend It Like Beckham and this autumn’s shark thriller Open Water. It is also behind the online video and DVD rental firm, Video Island. Burgeoning DVD sales are the main reason that sales have grown 170% a year from £1m in 2000 to £20.4m in 2003.
