The 19th-century merchant adventurer Robert Rix gave his name to this Hull company, whose interests span fuel supply, shipping and car dealerships. The largest division is Rix Petroleum, with more than 100 filling stations, a tanker fleet that also delivers biofuel, and barges that transport fuel on inland waterways. The family-owned company also retains significant shipping interests in the form of freight forwarder Rix Shipping and Hepworths, the last shipyard on the Humber. Sales under managing director Tim Rix were £289.5m in 2006.
