Rontec was formed in 2011 by Gerald Ronson, 76, to buy 500 service stations from Total Oil through a consortium that included his own Snax 24 retail business. The consortium paid a reported £360m before selling part of the estate. More than 200 sites remain, branded as Esso and as Rontec’s Shop’N’Drive convenience stores. Snax 24 and Rontec had combined sales of £946m in 2014.
