Even in winter, this company sells more than 2m litres of ice cream a week. R&R Ice Cream says it is the largest independent ice cream maker in Britain, making brands including Kelly’s of Cornwall and the Skinny Cow line of desserts. It also distributes Nestlé and Mars ice cream products, and makes products for retailers including Aldi, M&S and Tesco. The 1998 merger with Treats Group formed Richmond Foods plc. In May 2006, having taken over Nestlé UK’s ice cream business, Richmond was taken private in a £182m deal backed by Oaktree Capital, and subsequently merged with German firm Roncadin. Under chief executive James Lambert sales in 2008 reached £355m.
