Food doesn’t get much more traditional than the pork pies and Cornish pasties made by Samworth Brothers, whose brands include Ginsters and Dickinson & Morris. Based in Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, the company’s products, which also include sausages, ready meals and sandwiches, are sold through leading supermarkets and petrol stations. The family-owned firm is run by David and Mark Samworth and chief executive Brian Stein. Last year Patricia Hewitt, health secretary, commented that its factories were cleaner than hospitals. Sales rose £49m to £419m in 2004.
