What do consumers want to eat in tough economic times? Pork pies and Cornish pasties may just be the right recipe: traditional, filling, comfort food. Samworth Brothers says its division Dickinson &Morris is the only company still producing traditional pork pies in Melton Mowbray. Its Ginsters Cornish Pasty, said to be the top-selling chilled savoury product in the country, is still made in its traditional Cornwall home—though now with a staff of 700 and a fleet of 150 vehicles to deliver to petrol stations, convenience stores, and high street chains. Sales reached £518.8m in 2006.
