This East Midlands dealer says it plants a tree for every car and van it sells, and is working with the Carbon Trust to find more ways of going green. The family-owned company began life as a service station before moving into the car retail business in 1953, and, unusually for its industry, was granted a royal warrant in 1974. Today Sandicliffe has 12 outlets selling new and used cars and vans and is still owned by the founding Barton and Woodhouse families. Sales reached £154.6m in 2006.
