The family-owned construction firm Seddon was established in 1897 but it has embraced 21st-century environmental concerns by opening a plant that recycles rubble instead of sending it to landfill. The Cheshire business has 15 subsidiaries which specialise in general contracting, refurbishing and regenerating. It also develops specialist housing and provides services in painting, maintenance, plant manufacture and servicing. The third and fourth generations of the Seddon family still run the firm, but it is chaired by Rod Sellers, the first non-family member to hold the post. Sales were £271.6m in 2007.
