If you spill coffee on your mobile phone or drench your fitness monitor in sweat, the nano-coatings designed by this firm could save you from a hefty bill. Spun out of PA Consulting in 2008 by Ipex Capital, Semblant develops its waterproofing technology in Cambridge and licenses it to manufacturers. It also has bases in Silicon Valley and China and claims its compounds are now used to protect more than 100m mobile devices. It doubled sales to £5.5m in 2015, the year chief executive Simon McElrea, 43, joined from California-based Energous Corporation.
