With four manufacturing facilities in the US and three in Europe, Shimtech makes aerospace components and composite structures for the likes of Boeing and Airbus. Chief executive Howard Kimberley, 49, says its shims and fillers, which are spacers between components and structures, are found in almost every large aircraft being built around the world. Two acquisitions in the US over the past three years, plus a boom in jet building as passenger numbers soar, helped international sales hit £46m in 2015. Inflexion Private Equity and Auctus Industries backed a £142m secondary buyout last year.
