Shine

Founded by Rupert Murdoch’s daughter Elisabeth in 2001, this successful television production group consists of 24 companies making entertainment, factual and drama programmes. Shine TV’s Masterchef, presented by John Torode and Gregg Wallace, and Kudos’s Spooks and Ashes to Ashes are among the award-winning programmes that the group has sold to the BBC, ITV, C4, Five and Sky in Britain, and to broadcasters overseas. Shine also has subsidiaries in America, Scandinavia, Australia, Germany and France and employs 1,000 people. The company is majority-owned by Elisabeth Murdoch, with Sony holding a 21% stake and Sky 13%. Sales reached £257.9m in 2009.
