The food-and-drinks group SHS may not be a household name, but it is one of Northern Ireland’s biggest companies and owns some familiar brands such as the alcoholic beverage WKD, Merrydown cider and the Shloer soft-drinks range. SHS also distributes brands such as Desperados, Jordans and Finish to the retail trade. The business is owned by the Salters and Sloan families and under managing director Michael Howard sales were £436.4m in 2008. SHS is expected to file 2009 accounts showing a fall in sales.
