Twins Ben and Jonathan Finn were music undergraduates at Oxford and Cambridge universities when they designed a musical software package that is becoming an industry standard. It enables composers to write music on screen and was used by the likes of Michael Kamen to direct the Queen’s jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace, as well as writers of the score to Lord of the Rings.
Cambridge-based Sibelius Software, founded by the twins in 1993, is now the largest supplier of musical notation software in Europe. Its sales grew 56% a year from £1.4m in 1999 to £3.4m in 2001.
