After nine years of turning round car dealerships for the Henley Group, Steve Weal decided to go into the business for himself. He bought Sidcup Auto Centre with his brother-in-law, Stephen Weeitch, in 1996 and focused it on the Skoda market. They now sell 500 new and used Skodas a year, as well as carrying out servicing and repairs. More recently they have expanded by selling Skoda Octavias to the taxi trade. Sales at the Kent company have grown 73% a year from £760,000 in 1997 to £4m in 2000, when it had 14 staff. Weal and Weeitch own two further Skoda dealerships in Bexhill and Croydon.
