Bharat Shah founded Sigma Pharmaceuticals in 1975 to supply drugs to pharmacies and hospitals. In the years since, Sigma has moved into making affordable generic versions of branded drugs, and today encourages customers to haggle for the best price. The Watford firm, still under Shah’s leadership, now serves more than 5,000 customers. It offers next-day delivery on more than 1,000 generic drugs and medical supplies such as surgical dressings. Sales were £180.4m in 2006.
