From its humble origins repairing runways in Lincolnshire during the second world war, this building firm now has offices all over England offering a mix of construction, property development and engineering consultancy. A change in strategy to focus on fewer but bigger customers, including J†Sainsbury, Asda, B&Q and Debenhams, led to a slight drop in the firm’s sales, from a high of £232m in 2001 to £205.5m in March 2005. Chairman and chief executive Paul Hodgkinson owns the company with his brother Philip.
