Bristol start-up Smart Traffic delivers search engine optimisation (SEO) services to clients in 25 countries, restructuring their websites so they will appear in more search results. Well-known customers include Toshiba, Chubb, Pickfords and Unibet. The company was founded by managing director Andrew Birt, commercial director Ben Neve and technical director Simon Carpenter, who all grew up in the same Cornish village and met by chance later in life. They oversee more than 100 SEO technicians, who have helped sales climb 129% a year from £478,000 in 2008 to £5.8m in 2011. A new focus on social media is expected to contribute to further growth.
