Founded in 1998 by former geologist and Greenpeace employee Jeremy Leggett, Solarcentury says it is Britain’s largest independent solar energy company. With products designed to harness the power of the sun, it is perhaps no surprise that the London company exports to southern Europe. Sales in France and Italy have been particularly strong as the initial investment in solar panels in these sunnier climes has a shorter payback time than in the UK. The company’s international sales have grown 39% a year from £12.6m in 2009 to £24.4m in 2011.
