Concerns about climate change prompted former oil-industry consultant Jeremy Leggett to launch Solarcentury, which makes solar electricity panels for both homes and office buildings. The London company, which counts Tesco and the Co-op among its clients, recently raised £2m from Scottish and Southern Energy and £3.5m from Vantage Point Venture Partners to fund product development and worldwide expansion. Growing concern about global warming has helped boost sales 47% a year from £2.8m in 2003 to £6m in 2005.
