Whether it is the solar bus shelter that stores energy by day to illuminate itself at night, or a new solar panel that fits exactly like a roof tile, London-based Solarcentury claims to have been setting standards in the design of solar-energy systems since 1999. Headed by Jeremy Leggett, its customers include J Sainsbury and Orange, which use the energy generated to power shops and offices. The company claims that rising public concern over climate change has helped sales to grow 113% a year from £921,000 in 2002 to £4.2m in 2004.
