This Preston-based wholesaler provides two types of solar energy systems – photovoltaic for general use and thermal for heating. Founded in 2006 by Stuart Cooper, 37, Solfex has benefited from government legislation supporting renewable energy. In particular, demand has been boosted by the feed-in tariff – implemented in April 2010, though halved in April this year – which pays a generous price for all renewable electricity fed into the grid. Solfex sells its own branded solar thermal energy systems as well as those made by other manufacturers. In October 2011, Panoramic Growth Equity bought a minority stake in the company for £1.3m.
